This shield is decorated with many traditional features, including columns, lions, tablets and crown. It is set within a flamboyant Rococo-revival framework of scrolls, flowers and cartouche with shell.
The shield, formerly part of the renowned Charles Feinberg Collection, was exhibited with other items from the Feinberg Collection at the Detroit Institute of Arts in 1951. This exhibit was one of the earliest public presentations of ritual Judaica objects in an American art museum.
